I don't remember this happening in the past - but now, with certain games, if I want to access the store page I have to supply a valid birthday.

How do I make Steam remember?

  • #2
I'm not aware of any way to make it remember. It's especially dumb since you can have games in your library that you had to be 18 or whatever to purchase, yet it will still ask you when you look at the store for the very same game THAT YOU ALREADY OWN.

This is the part that utterly baffles me. Like, what in the actual fuck.

Steam used to remember my birthday. But it's forgotten now.

It's not the most annoying thing in the world that it keeps doing to me. But I'd prefer to never see it ask me again. Especially for items that I already own.

This has always happened to me. I have to constantly remind Steam that yes, I was born in 1899.

However! Steam usually autofilled the correct date and I just had to press Submit. Something changed recently and Steam kept assuming I was born in 2018. I had to change my default birth date somewhere before it stuck. Wish I could remember exactly where I found the setting..

edit: Goddammit, the iOS app has the wrong date again.
edit edit: The birth date setting is in the iOS app's Settings menu, of course.

You can skip the page on a web browser with Enhanced Steam

I think it's always been like this for mature titles. I just got used to it.

Reason #26 of 177 why Enhanced Steam is awesome: it skips that screen instantly.

I noticed this too. Whats more annoying is that window becomes unresponsive. Just have to stick to the website I guess.

You have to buy a Steam Gold Pass. It gets rid of age prompts, offers special discounts and a direct line to Gabe. It's invite only though.

Steam's been weird for me for awhile now, often forgetting settings that I had saved, and working exactly like they were supposed to, for weeks or months. Like, I have it set to allow background downloading, and to show my fps in low contrast in the top left corner, like that, but every now and then I'll notice the fps counter is gone and the setting has been reverted, or games won't download in background anymore and I have to redo that setting. It's annoying.

This forgetting my birthday thing, I just assumed it was a new bug along those lines, but I can't seem to find anyway to change it.

Maybe Steam doesn't love you any more.

Maybe you just can't satisfy Steam's needs any more.

Maybe Steam has moved on but you're clinging on to the romance that used to be.

I could be wrong, but I think is a rule enforced by ESRB. Media of M rated games must have an age gate.

I'd like it to remember too. Or at least ask how I went from 100 to 18 that one time. I don't think there is a way, unfortunately.

Just show that you care, Steam!

Nobody gives their real age anyway. It's stupid and annoying.

It used to remember but I think due to EU laws they have removed that functionality. There is even a message on those pages saying that they will not remember this information and it is for verification only.

I'd love to see the distribution graph of birthdays people input - all those "January 1st .... 1912 - fuck it, let me check out this game for gods sakes"

I am always born on Jan 1st, 1900. I am an immortal who loves 18+ rated games. lol

I'd take a guess that this is a bug, since I was not having this issue days ago. The age verification change has been there longer

I noticed this too when I wanted to purchased Mankind Divided. Every time I went back to the page it asked for my age again. Seriously what is up?
  • #28
Wouldn't be so bad if that page hadn't recently started to make the Steam client unresponsive.

Steams getting old. It's memory isn't what it used to be. It now likes to sit on it's porch yelling at clouds.

Not a bug, or if it is I have it too.

The store page has been like this for me pretty much for as long as steam has had a store page.

What's depressing now is I can just change the year to '2000' and it lets me through. I'm old.

Steam doesn't love us enough to remember.

I think no other age check system in the internet is so stupid. That other day i was doing Steam stuff on a browser and age check popped up. Just for curiosity i put 2012 in the year, and my access was really blocked even if i tried again at the specific game lol But if you enter on another tab, Steam just ask your birthday again like nothing happened.

It seems like a test mechanic they forgot to deactivate or something.

Same here.

Never did this because it remembered my date, but as of lately, it is 1st Jan 2018 or what all the damn time.

  • #36
It seems they "forget" info on purpose. It is because customer safe. Brthday date (is that well written?) is considered a "critical info". So steam doesn't save it anymore in case they get hacked. If you with paypal, you can notice it doesn't save your account password anymore.
